If you are talking about reducing the population in the yard the best approach would be to use a HavaHart live trap #1040..it looks too big but you will have better results than with the smaller ';squirrel sized'; traps..personal suggestion would to just transplant the trap into a garbage can full of water for about five minutes... If you are talking about rats in the attic, there really isn't a good toxin that they make for them, though if you take regular rat bait and pulverize it, then mix with equal parts of peanut butter they will readily consume that. You are unable to place the baits in a protected station as you would when dealing with rats so only use the bait up in the attic, but note if you have squirrels in the attic more than likely they are nesting in the attic so there is more of a chance of the animal dieing up there than with rats.How do I get rid of squirrels?
Try to use electronics instead of poison. You can buy a plug in device for mice that works very well on most small rodents.I tried this on my Father's home in rural Cape Breton ( chipmunk heaven ) and while he was away for the winter months, so were the squirrels and chipmunks. I feel so bad when I think of a small creature suffering a smashed foot or neck or trying to escape one of those awful glue traps.Making them not want to be there is so much more humane than slaughtering then. Look carefully at the word humane and consider what it means and its derivative.
