I work in a wildlife hospital, so you can rest easy, it happens all the time. Actually some get so sick it's the reason they are clumsily running in front of cars.Why don't you ever see squirrels that died of natural causes, or just keeled over dead?

What is natural for a squirrel? They play chicken with my dogs, jumping from the tops of redwood trees to grapevines, and chatter as they go.
Birds get them pretty quick.
intinct tells them when they will die and they go inside the burial tree while the elders of the colony perform a voodoo dance around a roaring fire. then they incinerate the squirrel and no one gives a second thought.
