Feeding the squirrels?

We have 3 huge oak trees on the property with several squirrels. Is it okay to feed them store bought nuts from a bag? We weren't sure if there were chemicals on the nut shells that would harm them. We also weren't sure if this would go against their local diet of existing food. The nuts in the bag are your standard Christmas type nuts. Walnuts, Brazil, Pecans, etc. Thanks.Feeding the squirrels?

Absolutely yes you can feed them store bought nutts..They will love you..I actually have 2 pet squirrels..I would however suggest that you try and buy the unsalted nutts..They also love whole kernnel corn..
I feed the squirels all the time too. It keeps them out of my bird feeders.. They love left over bread too.
It would be fine to feed them that but they probably wont like that type of nut. Also, its not really good to feed them because they can get crazy!
The squirrels where I live eat any kind of food. I throw out stale and moldy bread and they find it and eat it.


I doubt the store bought nuts will hurt them. They have other things to worry about like cars and pesticides and other chemicals that humans use.
Awesome that you wanna take care of the lil guys! Personally I Think They get a BAD Rap! I Live in Evergreen Colorado, and WE have a few Different breeds, All are very appreciative of a free meal! I just grab the bag Of Squirrel/small animal Feed Mix at Walmart (If you Have One in That area?) very inexpensive too! There's dry yellow corn Raw Peanuts, and sunflower seeds...THEY LOOOOVE IT! the yellow Corn (Remember, spring is Mating time, and They NEED the Xtra lil Boost of ENERGY..After All...They are Very busy this time of Year! Lots of babies to be made, lol%26gt;%26gt;the Corn has alotta protein in it, and tends to get the little boogers 'Cracked out' lol...FUN to watch Too! lol...Hope this helps... Squirrels are tough for example my father years ago wanted to get rid of the squirrels in a shed so he put out the stuff to kill rats.


What happen to the squirrels they got fat off the stuff and came from way off to eat it.





So a few mix nuts isn't going to bother them.

Nice of you feed %26amp; enjoy the squirrels bet they love it too :) Sunflower seeds...any birdseed... parrot, cockateil - available at Wal %26amp; K marts, pet stores...grocery stores, most people consider squirrels a nuisance, but they'll eat just about anything they can get their hands on, just remember, where there is foods aplenty the more squiirels you could end up with..Take Care :)
